Accomodation & Travel

Newark is well placed for visitors, commuters and those travelling through the East Midlands, offering a range of accommodation options alongside good road, rail and bus connections. Whether you are visiting for leisure, business or a short stay, the town provides convenient access to local attractions as well as nearby cities and countryside.

This page highlights key accommodation types and travel options to help you plan your stay or journey, without attempting to list every individual provider.

Rail Travel

Newark is served by two railway stations, offering excellent regional and national connections.

Newark Castle Station provides local and regional services, with convenient access to the town centre and connections to nearby towns and cities.

Newark North Gate Station is located on the East Coast Main Line and offers fast inter-city services to London, the North and Scotland. Direct trains run to London King’s Cross, with journey times as little as around 1 hour 15 minutes, as well as services northwards to cities including York, Leeds, Newcastle and Edinburgh.

Together, the two stations make Newark one of the best-connected towns in the region by rail.

Road Travel

Located close to the A1 and A46, Newark is easily accessible by car and well positioned for travel across the East Midlands and beyond.

Bus & Local Transport

Local and regional bus services provide regular connections within Newark and to surrounding towns and villages.

Parking in Newark

There are numerous paid parking options in and around Newark town centre, including short-stay and long-stay car parks within easy walking distance of shops, restaurants and attractions.

In addition, several supermarkets in and around the town centre offer free customer parking, including Morrisons, Asda, Iceland and Waitrose, typically for up to a set number of hours.
(Please check individual terms and conditions, as restrictions may apply.)

Cycling in Newark

Newark is a compact town and many destinations are within a short walking distance of each other. Visitors should be aware that cycling infrastructure in and around the town is limited. At present, there are few dedicated cycle routes leading directly into the town centre, and those that do exist can be inconsistent in quality and maintenance. As a result, many cyclists rely on quieter residential streets or shared road space when travelling around Newark.

Cyclists should also take sensible precautions when leaving bikes unattended. As with many town centres, secure cycle parking is limited, and visitors are advised to use high-quality locks and, where possible, choose well-lit or supervised locations.

Despite these challenges, Newark is surrounded by attractive countryside and quieter rural roads, which are popular with recreational cyclists and offer more enjoyable riding conditions just outside the town itself.

Visitor Information & Travel Tips

Newark benefits from a well-used bypass and surrounding road network, which helps keep through-traffic moving around the town rather than directly through the centre.

However, during busy periods, traffic within the town centre can become slow or congested, particularly at peak times and on market days. Visitors are advised to allow extra time when travelling by car and to consider parking just outside the core centre and walking where possible.
